ICEvision ON SITE

DIRTT Environmental Solutions manufactures movable (demountable) walls for commercial interiors. Often they have projects in areas where there aren't enough DIRTT certified installers to do all the jobs. Eric Lutz, a DIRTT Technician (aka DIRTTbag), often finds himself explaining the concept of the DIRTT Walls to people who only ever put up studs and sheetrock. Since they never get to see their work in a finished state, they don't have to worry about details the end-user will see. Eric took it upon himself to use the original ICE software file (intelligent, 3D software used by DIRTT as a front-to-back technology for their business) and turned it into an ICEvision experience for the rookie crew. "They were able to see what the space looks like finished, plus I added notes pointing out areas they need to be aware of during installation."

At first they thought it was just a cool video game. Then during the construction process it all started making sense. "These types of guys never say much," explains Eric. "But I noticed a much smoother installation compared to other newbies. A couple of times one of them was about to ask me a question and then he said, 'Oh yeah, I remember I saw this.' It gives guys confidence." For the neophyte installers this was a huge help in getting them to understand the big picture. "They were definitely more comfortable," says Eric. "One guy said to me after two days of unloading and then seeing the ICEvision, 'Now it makes sense!'" Click here to see the ICEvision Eric created.
